A place based group is one which works in and for the whole community to improve liveability and quality of the defined geographical area. It takes a broad approach in its aims, being open to any resident, group or business within its area. It operates in a collaborative manner with one of its aims to build the capability of all local people.
Taieri Network connects people, community groups, volunteers, businesses and representatives of the community together to build a safe place to share ideas and grow as a community. Our network aims to create opportunities for the community to come together and to celebrate all the wonderful ideas and initiatives happening in our space.
In practice, this means supporting community groups and volunteer-led organisations and building services and events throughout the community. Our team is supported by a full-time staff member who is on the ground in the community making connections and chatting with the community. We work towards a place in Taieri that everyone is proud of. Community led development means that our community shows us what they want and we go from there.
Being driven by community led development means that we have a commitment to work with a diverse range of people from local to central government, building on what's going great and supporting what isn't going so great. Our diversity is our strength and the narrative of our people through our work is deeply important.
The community led development principles underpinning our work are:
shared local visions or goals drive action and change
use existing strengths and assets
many people and groups working together
building diverse and collaborative local leadership
adaptable planning and action informed by outcomes.
