Join us on the live stream for the Taieri Matariki Hui Ako - a vibrant and inclusive community celebration where we come together to honour Matariki, a time of gathering, sharing, and connection.
This special event brings together preschools and schools from across the southern suburbs of Ōtepoti Dunedin, offering a shared space to learn and practise and strengthen tikanga Māori practices. Students will take the stage to showcase their talents, with kapa haka performances and expressions of cultural heritage and belonging, helping to strengthen identity and support smooth transitions in their educational journeys.
Due to limited space, this event will be live-streamed (as we are unable to accommodate whānau or spectators onsite) so whānau across Aotearoa and Australia can still join in and support their tamariki and mokopuna from afar.
Be a part of this uplifting community event - celebrating who we are, where we come from, and where we’re going together under the stars of Matariki.
NB: attached schedule may change. Best to check with your child's school.
Anzac Park, Gordon Road, Mosgiel | 10 June - 26 June
Celebrate the Māori New Year under a sky full of stars - right in the heart of Mosgiel. This beautiful, immersive static display transforms a container into a night-sky-inspired space, illuminated by fairy lights and filled with the warmth and wonder of Matariki.
Located at ANZAC Park, the display highlights the nine whetū (stars) of the Matariki constellation, inviting visitors to learn about their meaning and significance through engaging signage and QR codes linking to deeper insights. Rooted in mātauranga Māori, the display encourages reflection, connection, and peaceful contemplation during this special time of year.
Whether you're strolling by in the evening or visiting with whānau, the display offers a positive, welcoming experience that sets the tone for the wider Matariki on the Taieri celebrations. Come, learn, and bask in the glow Matariki.
