Brent Harpur is a self-taught cartoonist, art educator & entertainer. He has been legally blind since his teens, pursuing his infectious love for drawing and sharing it with others.
As an educator, he believes that the international language of art & creativity can bring people closer together, offering an alternative, non-verbal way of communicating and connecting. He asserts that cartooning can be all-inclusive and hugely instrumental in building stronger relationships and communities.
This workshop is inclusive of neuro diverse and those with a disability. All materials are supplied. Just bring your creative self to enjoy learning tips and tricks from Brent.

We’re thrilled to welcome Brent Harpur (cartoonist from Oamaru), who will be drawing caricatures and offering cartoon-drawing lessons.

Taieri College students will lead some exciting games, ensuring the day is packed with fun.

Brent Harpur is a self-taught cartoonist, art educator and entertainer who has been sharing his passion for drawing for over 34 years—teaching both children and adults across New Zealand, Australia, and over seas!
Despite losing his eyesight in his teens, Brent has never stopped drawing or inspiring others. He believes that art is a universal language—a powerful tool for communication, confidence, and connection. His workshops are all-inclusive, making them ideal for neurodiverse children and adults with disabilities.
Brent will teach kids to draw quirky, fun dinosaur cartoons, create caricatures, and learn cartoon drawing skills!

This adventure offers an engaging blend of education and hands-on exploration, diving into the geological and ecological wonders of the Taieri. Learn about the vital role of geology and water quality in sustaining the region’s unique flora and fauna, and how natural events influence our way of life. Explore the species that call the Taieri River home, gain insight into the river’s current meandering pathway across the Taieri Plain, and uncover what the river looked like thousands of years ago and the lasting impact on the unique species found here today.
